Ricardo John Cruz, of New Bedford, MA died in Brigham & Women's Hospital surrounded by his family on November 23, 2018, at the age of 65 years old.
Ricardo is survived by his wife Lenora Cruz; two daughters Alicia Cruz, Latoya Freeman and Eric Freeman (son-in-law); four grandchildren, Alyjah Adams, Iyanna Adams, Adyen Cruz-Adams, and Taylor Freeman; two brothers Richie Gomes and Paul Gomes; two sisters Doreen Soares and Doris Soares; aunt Angelica Costa and uncle Joel Pires; nieces, Desiree Soares also known as his adopted daughter and Dee'aja King also known to her as her papa; and many cousins and other family members. He is preceded in death by his parents Madeline and Richard Cruz; uncles James Pina, Antone Pina, Hector Pina, and Herman Pina, his aunt and Godmother, Muriel Pina.
Ricardo known as "Rick or Ricky" to close family and friends was born on March 3, 1953 in Acushnet, MA to Richard and Madeline Cruz. He graduated from New Bedford Voch Tech in 1972. In his earlier years he owned and operated a local restaurant called Snack Shack. He later became a mechanic and worked for SRTA for over 20 years. While working at SRTA he worked on becoming a successful entrepreneur. Ricardo was a franchise owner of Coverall and owned several vending machines. Dedication and hard work allowed him to become the proud owner of R.J. Cruz Property management in Boston, MA.
Ricardo was a devoted family man. He enjoyed his time with his family, watching his grandchildren grow, and sports. His passion was building an empire for his family. He had a smile that brightened up a room. He was a financial advisor/life counselor to many without them knowing it, he was always available to problem solve with you or just someone to talk to. He wanted nothing but the best for everyone he surrounded himself with. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him.
His Funeral will be held on Monday, December 3rd at 8 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM. Visiting hours will be on Sunday, December 2nd from 3-7 PM.
