On Nov. 24, 2018 Charlotte Mary (Santos) de Villier, entered into eternal life from her home in the loving care of her devoted family and the staff members of Trinity Hospice Homecare. Charlotte was born in Charleston, South Carolina on July 1, 1924 to the late Carroll and Theodora M. Santos. She lived out her life as a true Charlestonian with grace and dignity. She received her B.S degree in Social Work from Misericordia University in Dallas, Pennsylvania, class of 1948. Charlotte was married to her late husband Lt. Col. Alex J. de Villier Jr. for sixty seven years who passed away October 20, 2017. She was devoted to her beloved husband, family and lifelong friends. Together they raised their nine children in the Atwater Park neighborhood of Springfield. She also leaves twenty three grandchildren, nine great grandchildren as well as her faithful companion of eleven years, Chum-Ling. Charlotte will be forever missed by all who were touched by her life. She was a lifelong parishioner of Sacred Heart R.C. Church in Springfield, Ma. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, November. 30, 2018 at 11:00 AM in Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut St., Springfield. Following cremation, Charlotte will be laid to rest alongside her husband in a private, family service held at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Agawam, Massachusetts. In lieu of flowers, it was her request that donations be made in her name to the Dominican Nuns at the Mother of God Monastery, 1430 Riverdale St, West Springfield, MA 01089 or to the Sacred Heart Church Renovation Fund, 395 Chestnut St, Springfield, MA 01104.
