David I. Grist, Sr., 82, of West Shore Road, Warwick, formerly of Smithfield, died Friday, November 23, 2018 with his family by his side at Miriam Hospital in Providence. He was the loving husband of the late Joan L. (Fortin) Grist, who died in December, 2012.
Born in Johnston, he was a son of the late Benjamin and Carrie (Lawton) Grist. He had lived in Smithfield before moving to Florida. He had most recently lived in Warwick. Mr. Grist was the owner of David I Grist and Associates until his recent retirement. He had previously worked as Chief Architect for Keyes Associates in Providence for 27 years. As a registered architect for close to fifty years he designed hundreds of buildings throughout New England and Southwest Florida. He had also served in the RI Army National Guard for 8 years. He was Past President of the Woonasquatucket Valley Rotary Club.
He is survived by his sons: Donald Grist and his wife, Diane of Smithfield, David Grist and his wife, Marie of Warwick and Kevin Grist and his wife, Erinn of Bridgewater, MA, 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Harold and Warren Grist.
His funeral service to which relatives and friends are invited will be held Tuesday morning at 11:30am in the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Rt 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Visitation prior to the service from 10-11am. Burial will follow in Highland Park Cemetery, Johnston. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association.
