Obituary

Luongo, Silvio R. It is with great sadness that the family of Silvio R. Luongo announces his passing on November 23, at the age of 97. Silvio was a resident of East Boston and Danvers. He was the beloved husband of the late Marguerite (Tortorici) with whom he shared 66 years of marriage. Loving father of Rev. Anthony V. Luongo, of the Lynnfield Catholic Collaborative, Lynnfield; and Elisa Luongo- Caruso of Danvers; Adoring grandfather of John Anthony Carusoand caring father-in-law of John F. Caruso. Loving uncle of Luigina Spinazzola and family of Bresso, Italy; and Lucia Forchione and family of Melito, Italy.
Affectionate cousin of the late Rose and Joe Grifoni and the late Edda and Nick Marino and their children, Dr. Gail Herzig and family, Stephen Marino and family, Marilyn Belmonte and family and Joseph Grifoni Jr. and family. Brother-in-law of Mary and the late John DeSimone; Frances and Peter Federico; Lucy and Antonio Busa; Gloria Petruzziello; Dorothy and the late Armando Paolo; Victoria and Angelo Maurici; Jack and Florence Tortorici; and Mario and Roberta Tortorici. And many nieces and nephews.

Silvio was born in Melito (Irpino) Avellino, Italy and emigrated to the United States at the age of 18 where he resided in the North End of Boston until meeting and marrying his wife Marguerite in 1947. They moved to East Boston and raised their family until 2012 when they moved to Danvers.
Silvio was a designer and foreman at Clift Manufacturing in Boston where they manufactured military uniforms and men’s topcoats. Upon his retirement he was a well-known and welcome face in local cafés and known for his love of cappuccino. One could often find him at Toretta’s Bakery and Café Calabria. We are forever grateful for his brother-in-law, Mario, for Tuesday afternoons together and for his caring hospice nurse, Pat Lemonosky, from Care Dimensions.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday November 29, in The Holy Name Church, 1689 Centre St. West Roxbury from 9:00 to 11:00 am. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

Interment St. Michael Cemetery.
