Obituary

Arthur "Chief" Pacheco, 88, of New Bedford died November 17, 2018 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness.
He was the husband of the late Helen (Piva) Pacheco, and the son of the late John and Mary C. (Medeiros) Pacheco.
He was born in New Bedford and lived in New Bedford for all of his life.
He was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and a former communicant of St. John the Baptist Church.
Mr. Pacheco was formerly employed by the City of New Bedford Water Department for many years until his retirement. After his retirement, he had been appointed a member of the Board of the Water Department by former Mayor Rosemary Tierney.
He was a member of the Portuguese-American War Veterans, and American Legion Post One. He enjoyed the company of his cat "Angel."
Mr. Pacheco served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
Survivors include his 2 daughters, Patricia A. Pacheco and Mary Pomer, both of New Bedford; 3 sisters, Dorothy Lima-Ferro of Florida, Therese B. Pereira of Fairhaven, and Mary Norma Ferro of Mansfield; a granddaughter, Melissa Pacheco of New Bedford; 2 great-grandsons, Elijah Pacheco and Adam Pacheco; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Joseph Pacheco, Gilbert Pacheco, Jesse Pacheco, Carlos Pacheco, Constance "Connie" Motta, John Pacheco, Jr., and Manuel "Sam" Pacheco.
His Funeral will be held on Tuesday, November 20th at 9:30 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Monday, November 19th from 4-7 PM. Flowers are accepted or a donations may be made to the Salvation Army, 619 Purchase St., New Bedford, MA 02740.
