Obituary

Mary Mansour Matook, lifelong resident of Brockton, Massachusetts, died peacefully on November 12, 2018. She was 83 years old, having been born on March 25, 1935. Her former husband (deceased) was Frederick Matook. Mary is survived by her two sons: Wade and his wife Karen, of Exeter, R.I., and their children Jessica, Katherine and Taylor; and by Michael and his wife Cindy, of Stoughton, MA, and their children Zachary and Sydney. Mary is also survived by two siblings, Thomas Mansour of Raynham, MA, and Virginia Mansour Mahana of Brockton, MA.

Mary’s parents Chickery Mansour and Katherine Hamwey Mansour, were both born and lived in Lebanon—a heritage that Mary cherished. A graduate of Brockton High School, Mary worked as a hostess in the restaurant industry including The Tip Top Cafe and later in life as an office administrator.

She was very active in NAM, the National Apostolate of Maronites, the official lay apostolate of the Maronite Church of the United States. She was a valued member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the local chapter of AARP, the American Association of Retired Persons. Mary was also a devout worshipper and active member of Saint Theresa Maronite Church in Brockton, which has a rich Lebanese heritage.

In all of her work and volunteer activity, Mary had an infectious outgoing personality and worked tirelessly to create activities and programs that were very much appreciated. Fellow workers and volunteers describe Mary as an exuberant force of nature that lit up a room with her smile. Perhaps Mary’s greatest pleasure in life came from time spent with her children and grandchildren—indeed, she often said her prized accomplishment was a happy and settled family.

All are cordially invited to visitation that will be held on Friday, November 16, from 4 - 7 pm at the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont St. (Rte. 123) Brockton with the Incense Service at 5:30 pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home Saturday, November 17 at 9 am, followed by the Services of the Divine Liturgy at 10am Saint Theresa Maronite Church, 343 North Main St, Brockton.
