…beloved husband, father, grandfather; 86
TEWKSBURY - Mr. Leo Joseph DuCharme, age 86, a resident of Tewksbury for the past five decades, died peacefully surrounded by his family at Life Care Center of Merrimack Valley in North Billerica, early Saturday morning, November 10. He was the beloved husband of Rita F. (Cantalupa) DuCharme, with whom he had celebrated a sixty-third wedding anniversary on June 11th.
He was born in Lowell, on March 18, 1932, one of seven children of the late Leo E. and Marie (Bourqeault) DuCharme, and raised in Somerville. After attending Somerville High School, he enlisted into the U.S. Army, and served during the Korean War. Leo was awarded a Bronze Star for gallantry in battle. Upon discharge, he became a pressman and printer, worked at Americraft Carton company, and retired from Prince Packaging.
While raising his three sons in the Tanglewood Avenue neighborhood, he became active in youth Sports. He served the community as a Babe Ruth Coach and a Little League Coach. He was also an avid golfer and bowler, and enjoyed following Boston’s professional sports teams.
Besides his wife, he leaves his three sons, Paul L. DuCharme and his wife Deborah of Townsend, David A. DuCharme and his wife Carolyn of Townsend, Leo E. DuCharme and his wife Kathleen of Tyngsboro, twelve grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; a brother Paul DuCharme and his wife Jacqueline of Wilmington, two sisters; Theresa Stevens of No. Andover and Linda Langone and her husband Anthony “Chicky” of Tewksbury; many nieces and nephews; and was predeceased by his siblings, Ella MacDonald, Pauline Downs, and Doris Brussard.
Visiting hours Tuesday, Nov. 13, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. in the Tewksbury Funeral Home, corner of 1 Dewey and 975 Main Sts. (Rte. 38) TEWKSBURY CENTER, Ph. (800 in MA or 978) 851 2950. His Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, Nov. 14, at 11:00 a.m. in the Funeral Home, followed by Burial with Army Honors at St. Mary cemetery, No. Tewksbury.
