Therese R. Desmarais, 89, of Cumberland died Thursday November 8, 2018 at Charlesgate Nursing Center in Providence. She was the loving wife of the late Lucien G. Desmarais. They were married on January 18, 1947 and shared over 65 years together until his passing in 2012.
Born in Woonsocket she was a daughter of the late Henri and Leda (Carle) St. Sauveur. She was raised in Woonsocket and resided in Cumberland for most of her life.
Mrs. Desmarais was employed at Woonsocket Dress Co., Finklestien’s and Pawtucket Dress and later at Dale Medical Products until retiring in 1990.
Therese was a longtime communicant of St. Joan of Arc Parish and a member of the St. Joseph Senior citizens group and the Happy Rollers bowling league. Therese was adept at cards and bingo was her game of choice.
She is survived by her children Robert P. Desmarais and his wife Muriel of FL, Rita J. Holloway and her husband David and Normand P. Desmarais and his wife Ann Marie all of Cumberland. She was the sister of the late Henri Jr., Aram and Pierre St. Sauveur, Tony and Rosaire LeBlanc, Loretta Marchand, Lucy Poisson and Daisy Anisarowicz. She is also survived by 3 grandchildren Robert, Christopher and Crystal Desmarais, two great- grandchildren Maurice and Vincent and many nieces and nephews and their families.
Her funeral will be Wednesday at 9:00 am from the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 71 Central St. Manville followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Joan of Arc Church, Mendon Rd. Cumberland. Burial will follow in St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery, Bellingham. Visiting hours are Tuesday from 4-7 pm.
