Obituary

George Ernest Haskell, Sr., age 69, of Jacksonville, NC, formerly of Brockton, died unexpectedly November 4, 2018 at the Onslow Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville. He was the devoted husband for 51 years to Cheryl A. (Avery) Haskell. George was born and raised in Brockton a son of the late Charles F. and Hazel Irene (Allerby) Haskell. He enjoyed sharing a home in Jacksonville, NC with his wife and daughter for the past 12 years.

In 1966 George enlisted in the United States Army where he served in Fort Riley Kansas and Germany. While in the military he received his High School GED from the U.S. Armed Forces Institute and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and Expert Rifle, Machine and Pistol Medals for his service. George worked as a Manager at Verizon Communications for 25 years before retiring in 1994. He was a member of the American Legion Post 35, the Samoset and Hanson Rod and Gun Clubs and for many years was a Southern Mass Little League Umpire. George enjoyed fishing, hunting, PC gaming and wrestling in his spare time. He cherished most however, time spent visiting with his family and friends, especially his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. George was so proud of his family and will be remembered for the loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother that he was.

In addition to his wife, George leaves his children Cheryl Shepley and her husband Brian of Raynham, George E. Haskell, Jr. and his partner Melissa Baresel of Taunton, Glenn Haskell and his wife Christine of East Taunton, and Rene Hodgdon of Jacksonville, NC. He also leaves his siblings Charles Haskell, Jr. of Kingston, Hazel Irene Duff of Raynham, James Haskell of Taunton, Janet Reed, David Haskell, Barbara Haskell, Linda Cruz and Ruth Betts all of Brockton, Vivian Johnson of Foxboro, Norma Haskell of Middleboro and John Haskell of Plymouth. He also leaves his 15 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Visiting Hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rt 123) Brockton, on Sunday November 11, from 2-6pm. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Monday at 10am followed by burial in Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton. In lieu of flowers please consider donations in George's name to a charity of your choice.
