Manchester NH - Alfred J. Valley, age 96, was summoned by the angels above on Saturday, November 3rd, surrounded by his loving family. He was born and raised in Worcester MA, June 30, 1922. He was the son of the late Alfred J. Valley Sr and Eva (Fortin) Valley.
Alfred served with distinction in the US Army during WWII as a Private and Corporal and during the Korean Conflict totaling 7 years. A disabled veteran and proud member of American Legion Post 0079 in Manchester.
Alfred worked in government service in Washington DC. He worked as an accountant for the City of Manchester, retiring after 20 years of service. Alfred attended Hesser College for Business in Manchester and NH Technical Institute in Concord NH.
Alfred loved his extended family and enjoyed spending holidays visiting them.
Alfred loved music and played the guitar, mandolin and harmonica. He loved visiting the seaside in NH and Southern Maine. He enjoyed watching TV westerns. He enjoyed baking and cooking as well as eating and frequented various restaurants in the city.
Alfred was a devoted Catholic and longtime member of St Joseph Cathedral in Manchester, serving as lector, usher and catechist for many years. He professed vows as a third order of St Francis on 10/29/67 and was a member of the Legion of Mary.
Alfred was preceded by his fist wife Myrtle Chandler, second wife Alice Garrahan, third wife Gertrude Ouellette, and brother Daniel J. and Marie (Campbell) Valley of Malden MA. He is survived by his daughter Myrtle Bolster of Vancouver WA and granddaughter Elizabeth Bolster of East Haven Conn, niece and caretaker Eva (Valley) and Dennis Marvell, Ellen (Valley) and James Gautreau Sr of Derry, Karen (Valley) & Dave Gould of New Bedford MA, Anthony Valley of New Bedford MA, Vincent Valley of Lowell MA, Timothy & Diane Valley of Lowell MA, Thomas and Maryann (deceased) Valley of Concord NH, Theresa (Valley) and Anthony Ferullo of Bow NH, Kathleen (Valley) (deceased) and Michael Stefanilo of Sanford ME, James and Joan Valley of Lynn MA, Patricia (Valley) Piazza of Longwood FL, Daniel Jr and Dale Valley of Malden MA, Marie (Valley) and Joseph Kelley of Stewartstown NH. Also survived by 30 great nieces and nephews and 24 great great nieces and nephews.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St Joseph Cathedral on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at 10 am.
Burial will follow in St Joseph Cemetery in Manchester.
In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to St Joseph Cathedral in his name.
