Irene R. “Sis” Dutra was born in Brockton, Mass. on August 18, 1932 and passed quietly in her New York residence on October 24, 2018. She lived a very full life, rich with religion, academics and world travel. Irene travelled all over the globe as a language instructor in such exotic places as Brazil, China and Cambodia to name a few.
She was a former Fulbright Scholar and in later years taught English studies and developed educational computer software at the Bronx Community College and also City College. She loved the energy of living in New York and enjoyed the theatre and following the Paul Taylor Dancers.
Irene was pre deceased by her parents Manuel and Irene Dutra and her younger brother Richard Dutra. She leaves her two sisters Lorraine Reed of Westfield, MA and Shirley Gray of Onset, MA and a cousin Kathy Engstrom of W. Bridgewater. She also leaves many nieces and nephews Michael Annis, Kathleen Annis, Sheila Paquette, Eileen Gamelli, David Annis, Shawn Annis, Michael Dutra and Jacqueline Dutra.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Ann Church 95 N. Main St.,West Bridgewater, MA on Wed. November 7, 2018 at 10 am. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Brockton.
