Ester Hawkins, age 71, entered into rest on Saturday following a brief illness.
Ester was born in McCormick, South Carolina to the late Joseph Ward Yassney and Helen Virginia Willis. She was employed with Comcast for more than thirty years, and she enjoyed watching Dr. Charles Stanley on Sunday mornings with her husband. She will be remembered for her enduring spirit, her generosity, her bunny collection, and for being the rock of their family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother and sisters, Joseph Yassney (Callie), Miriam Highfill (Don), and Mary Yassney.
She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Robert Hawkins of Evans; two children, Joy Foss of Augusta and James Maples (Bunny) of Evans; four grandchildren, Shae Foss, Brandon Foss, Shay Hudson, and Jamie Maples; sister, Bebe Eberhart of Evans; brother, Edward Yassney (Shirley) of Evans; sister in law, Carol Davis (Mike) of Evans; nieces and nephews, Maria Bagley, Sheryl Anderson (John), Kathryn Rossi (Randy), and Callie Turner (Preston), Edward Yassney, Jr., Matthew Yassney, and Joseph Yassney, Jr. (Kristina). She is also survived by her special needs cousin, Donna Talbert; and her nephew, Josh Highfill. Ester would bring Donna into her home on every holiday and birthday- making Donna feel like the special person she is and to wrap her in the love of family. Ester had a special love for Josh and made sure he always had extra money for snacks and treats.
The family will receive friends from 1-3:00 P.M. Wednesday at Platt’s Funeral Home Belair Chapel.
A memorial celebration will take place at 3:00 P.M. Wednesday in the Chapel of Platt’s Funeral Home. Interment will be private.
