Obituary

FALL RIVER --- Anna F. (Jones) Mosher, 96, until recently a resident of Westport, died Thursday, Nov. 1, 2018 at Southpointe Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was the widow of Henry R. Seaman and Howard C. Mosher.

A longtime SouthCoast resident, she lived in North Dartmouth for many years before moving to Westport 40 years ago.

Born Jan. 22, 1922 in Whiteford, Md., she was one of 10 children and the daughter of the late George and Reba (Allison) Jones. After graduating from Slate Ridge High School in Cardiff, Md. in 1939, she took a job as a government inspector at the Edgewood Arsenal in Aberdeen, Md.

When she had the option to transfer, she and her close friend Lillian left rural Maryland and bravely moved north to Fall River where she worked at a WWII-contracted plant. It was in Fall River that she met and, in 1940, married Henry R. Seaman. They had three children, Hank, Debbie and Wayne, and were raising their family in Somerset, when Henry died suddenly of a heart attack at the age of 49.

After their retirement, Anna and Howard moved permanently to their summer home overlooking the Westport River. She especially enjoyed entertaining there and for many years hosted an annual picnic for the local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, of which she was a proud member. She was also a longtime member of the Saturday Club; attended the Westport Point United Methodist Church; and she delighted in attending Masonic functions with Howard.

Gardening, knitting and reading were among her favorite hobbies but what she enjoyed most was time spent with her children and grandchildren who --- despite occasional teasing about her “Mom-isms” like “If you’re going to forget, call me”--- loved her dearly.

She also carried lifelong memories of the wonderful times and laughter she shared with her brothers and sisters in Maryland which she visited as often as she could. When possible, she timed her trips to coincide with Slate Ridge High School reunions.

After Howard’s death in 2002, Anna remained at their Westport home and in recent years was joined by her daughter Deborah (Seaman) Russo, who helped with her care until Debbie’s unexpected death in March.

Survivors include her sons, Wayne Seaman and his wife Karen of Hooksett, N.H. and Hank Seaman and his wife Susan of Dartmouth; three grandchildren, Dr. Kristen Seaman of Eugene, Ore., Errol Borden of Somerset and Jennifer Seaman of Newmarket, N.H.; two great-grandchildren; a brother, John J. Jones of Red Lion, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Anna’s life will be held at a later date.

Burial, which will be private, is at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Fall River where Anna will rejoin her husband Henry.
