BUXTON- Arlene Elizabeth Hutto, age 95, of Buxton, passed away after a long illness on Nov. 2, 2018 in Portland.
She was born at home in Westbrook on Sept. 9, 1923, a daughter of the late William and Elizabeth (Cairns) Brown. She attended Westbrook schools and graduated from Westbrook High School in 1941.
For 29 years, she worked as a clerk at Plummer’s Supermarket in West Buxton.
Arlene enjoyed word search puzzles, gardening, flowers, reading, going out to eat, bird watching,
country western music, volunteering at the Buxton Center Baptist Church, and was an avid dog lover – especially with Chica, Kiwi, and Bindi.
She is predeceased by her husband Charles Hutto; and her sister- Marilyn Turner.
Arlene is survived by her children- Stanwood Newell and his wife Kathleen of Peaks Island, Beth Plummer and her husband Barry of Buxton, Sandy Lauzon of AZ, and Cheryl Avis and her husband Ed of Litchfield; a brother- George Brown of VT; nine grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday Nov. 11 at 2 PM at the Buxton Center Baptist Church, 938 Long Plains Road (Rt. 22) in Buxton. Burial will be private at Woodlawn Cemetery in Westbrook.
