Elsie “Joy” Waller Spires, 64, of Tifton passed away Friday, November 2, 2018, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 5, 2018, at Hope Baptist Church in Nashville with the Rev. Richard McNair officiating. Mrs. Spires will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday, November 5, 2018, from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of the service at Hope Baptist Church in Nashville.
The deacons of Hope Baptist Church in Nashville will serve as pallbearers.
Born August 26, 1954 in Ben Hill County, Mrs. Spires was the daughter of the late William Henry Waller and Mildred Lucile Padgett Waller. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Billy Cleaburn Waller; one sister, Alice Gwendolyn Waller Bassin; and one nephew, Tony Hood, Jr. She was a cosmetologist and a partner at Manetamers Beauty Salon in Tifton. She was a member of Hope Baptist Church in Nashville, where she taught Sunday school and served as treasurer. She also sang in the choir; was a leader of Vacation Bible School and leader of the Sisters of Hope Ministry.
Mrs. Spires is survived by her husband, Stan Spires of Tifton; one brother, Robert Henry Waller of Ocilla; two sisters, Betty Jean Waller Bishop of Fitzgerald and Frances Elaine Waller Larsen of Pinon Hills, California; two sisters-in-law, Brenda Spires Southerland and Tracy Spires Stewart, both of Nashville; two nieces, Sarah Anne and husband Dennis Coates and Della Rose Savage; and three nephews, James William Hood, Ronny Ray Jr. and Brandon Hendley.
