Richard Duwayne Thompson, 75, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, formerly of Orlando, Florida, died Thursday, November 1, 2018, at his residence.
Mr. Thompson was born March 25, 1943, in Decatur, Illinois, to the late Franklin Dean & Mary Jean Hallett Thompson. Mr. Thompson was a criminal investigator, firefighter, worked with EMS, had a master nautical licenses and sold boating insurance. He served his country honorably in the United States Army for 20 years. Mr. Thompson enjoyed woodworking, boating, photography and playing the guitar.
He is survived by his wife Carol Griffin Thompson of Fitzgerald; children, Adrienne Thompson of Orlando, Florida, Dean Thompson of Key West, Florida, Ryan & Amy Zietlow of Wisconsin, and Stacie Lee & Erik Jacobs of Wisconsin; grandchildren, Dylan Griesbach, Katherine Griesbach, Addison Zietlow, and Aubrie Zietlow; 10 step-grandchildren including: Kayla Vandegrift, Jordan Prather and Trey Vandegrift and a sister, Judy & James Frien of Orlando, Florida. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Roseanne Thompson and Elizabeth Bower.
