Obituary

Kevin Joseph Medeiros, 63, of New Bedford, died on October 22, 2018 at St. Luke’s Hospital after a brief illness.

Kevin lived a lot of life in his 63 years. He was a lifelong resident of New Bedford. He graduated from New Bedford High School in 1973. He proudly served the United States in the Army as a member of the 82nd Airborne, 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment and was stationed at Fort Bragg, NC. He was a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service until his retirement in 2004. He accomplished his goal of becoming a firefighter for the City of New Bedford in 2004 and worked there until his death. He also worked at the New Bedford Waterfront as a longshoreman since 2007.

Kevin was strong-willed, opinionated and always had a joke to tell. He jumped out of airplanes, hit a hole-in-one and could do the Worm. He had a deep laugh that came in short bursts and a smile that will be missed. Kevin always had a baseball cap on his head with his sunglasses resting on the brim. He had a shaved head and big mustache just like his best friend and “brother,” Tom Mello. He was a man of few words with a tough exterior but if you were important to him, he made sure you knew it. Kevin was proud of his sons and was grateful for the time he spent with them as adults. He enjoyed taking his nieces and nephews on birthday shopping trips, to the movies and out to eat. He loved having his great-nieces and great-nephews visit him at the fire station.

He like eating pickled onions, clam boils and his mother’s kale soup. He spent his time riding his Harley, going to the gym, playing his guitars, golfing, and fishing. He liked to relax in his recliner watching the Bruins, Patriots and Red Sox. He prided himself on his Charlie Brown Christmas Tree, his 23-year-old Jeep and his fish tank.
Kevin left this life earlier than he wanted, and before his loved ones were prepared to say goodbye, but he was surrounded by love when the moment came.

He is survived by his loving mother, Eileen; his sons Colton Patrick of Wareham and Lucas James of New Bedford; his sisters Maureen Allain and her husband Bernard, and Rachel Cardullo and her husband Paul; his nieces Nicole Allain and Jaime Dore of Dartmouth; his nephews Matthew Allain and his wife Jillian of Fairhaven and Adam Cardullo of Charlotte, NC; his great-nieces Kennedy, Sydney and Addison and his great-nephews Grayson and Carson. He was predeceased by his father, Joseph.
