Roy A. MacDonald, 68

Dateline: Jaffrey, New Hampshire

Roy A. MacDonald, age 68, of Jaffrey, NH, formerly of Antrim, NH and East Mansfield, MA, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving daughter on Monday, October 29, 2018 at the Rose Monahan Hospice Home in Worcester.

Roy was born at Boston Lying In Hospital on March 21, 1950. He was the loving son of the late Stanley A. and Lillian A. (Dale) MacDonald.

Roy lived in Brighton and Cochituate until his family finally settled in East Mansfield. He attended Mansfield Public Schools and was a 1968 graduate of Mansfield High School.

He worked at Foxboro State Hospital and trained as a tool & die maker at Bay State Tap & Die/Cleveland Twist Drill in Mansfield where he worked for many years. He enjoyed success as a real estate agent for ERA Towne & Country of Franklin and was a million-dollar seller. He became a developer and designed one of the first residential compounds in East Mansfield on Lauren Lane. His most recent jobs were as a driver for Foxfield Taxi and working in maintenance for the First Baptist Church of Mansfield.

Roy loved and was an aficionado and owner of many antique cars, his most recent being a 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass. Roy loved woodworking and made a beautiful hobby horse for his two granddaughters. At Christmas time he designed and built a village of houses for the town of Antrim. For many years with his former wife “Ms. Mac” Roy built the sets for the school musicals for Mansfield High School. His finest accomplishment was the classic real red car for the play “Grease”, with working headlights and horn! It was amazing! All the drama students loved working with “Mr. Mac”.

Roy is survived by his loving and devoted daughter Pella (Anderson) Shmays, son-in-law Michael and two granddaughters Zoey and Mia all of Hopkinton, MA. His former wife Karen Anderson “Ms. Mac” of East Wareham, his brother Leo MacDonald and wife Ruth of Lisbon, CT. He is also survived by his nephew Thomas Whitner and wife Brenda, nephew Christopher Whitner, great niece Amber and great nephew Conner, nephew Matthew Whitner and wife Melissa, niece Meghan Hughes, her companion Chris and great niece Audrey Rose, nephew Brian MacDonald, nephew Keith MacDonald, niece Kristina MacDonald and niece Heather MacDonald. He is also survived by his former sister-in-law Christine Anderson of Pelham, NH.

Visiting hours, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Sunday, November 4th from 3:00-5:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.

A funeral service will be held at the conclusion of visiting hours on Sunday at 5:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Burial will take place on Monday, November 5th at 11:00 A.M. at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, 990 Lagrange St., West Roxbury.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Roy’s memory may be made to the First Baptist Church, 52 North Main St, Mansfield, MA 02048.
