Raymond E. Erbe, 84, of Willow Road, Greenville, died Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at Hebert’s Nursing Home in Smithfield. He was the husband of Jean C. (Senerchia) Erbe.
They had been married for 61 years.
Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Alfred and Mary (Kelly) Erbe. He had lived in Smithfield for 45 years previously living in Providence. Ray had been the Head of the Motor Vehicles Fleet at the Turnkey and retired from the US Postal Service after 35 years. He served as a Private 1st Class in the US Army.
Ray was an avid sports fan of all the New England sports teams and loved to play Keno. He was a member of the Smithfield Elks Lodge, BPOE 2359 for over 40 years, where he had served as Treasurer. He was manager in the Smithfield Little League and a coach with the Smithfield Youth Hockey League. He was the timekeeper for the Smithfield High School hockey team throughout the 1980's.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his children: Raymond W. Erbe of Smithfield, Stephen A. Erbe and his wife, Mary of Smithfield, Nancy J. Contillo Pardini and her husband, Robert of Seekonk, MA, Karen E. Garris Giles and her husband, Ed of Murfreesboro, TN, Michael C. Erbe of Smithfield, his grandchildren, Gianna Contillo of Boston, Gabriella Contillo of Lincoln, Brianna Erbe of Cranston, Kristina Erbe of North Providence, Kristofor Garris of Knoxville, TN, Ryan Erbe and Evan Erbe both of Smithfield and his brother Edmund Erbe and his wife, Christine of Florida. He was the grandfather of the late Mychalah Erbe and brother of the late Alfred Erbe.
His funeral will be held Saturday at 9am from the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Rt 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Michael’s Church, 80 Farnum Pike, Smithfield. Burial will be private. Visitation Friday 4-7pm.
