Obituary

Dora Betran, 92, of Ventura, California, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Saturday, October 20, 2018 after a brief illness. Mrs. Betran was born in Jerome, Arizona on January 11, 1926 to Juan and Maria Ventura Nunez. She was the 8th of 12 children. The family moved from Jerome to the Central Valley of California when she was a young girl. She married David Betran in 1954. They lived in Pacoima until relocating to Ventura in 1963. She worked for the Sunkist Packing House in Ventura for 26 years until she retired in 1989. Dora was known for her fierce loyalty to her family and friends, as well as to her favorite baseball team, the Los Angeles Dodgers. It was a well known fact among the family that her homemade salsa would be extremely hot after a Dodger loss. She was renowned for her cooking, especially her tamales, which were a prized commodity during the holidays.
Dora was known for her kindness and generosity as well as her amazing sense of humor. She was the matriarch of our family, teaching us all how to love, appreciate, and laugh at each other. Everyone who met Dora was drawn to her warm and gentle spirit. Though her passing leaves a void that will never be filled, we will continue to stay strong and connected through her legacy and love that she leaves behind.
Dora is survived by her sister, Adeline Cortez of Thousand Oaks, as well as 3 children: Elizabeth Silva, Linda Mora (David), and David Betran(Tami) and foster daughter, Ana Ortiz (Raul). She is survived by 6 grand children: Michael (Katie), Brian, Niki, Natasha, David, Jessie(Marc), as well as 3 great-grandchildren: Molly, Jack, and Kaysen.
