Obituary

Marion J. Levasseur

STANDISH – Marion J. Levasseur, of Cape Road and St. Peter’s Parish, St. Kitts passed away peacefully at home on October 17, 2018.

She was born on March 6, 1929 in Porto Alegre, Brazil to Gretchen and Hermann Meyer. The family emigrated to Brazil after WWI. In 1937 the family returned to Hamburg, Germany to deal with health issues and were trapped when the borders were closed at the start of WWII.

The war came to Hamburg and their home was bombed and destroyed. The family became refugees and relocated to Coburg, Bavaria where they survived until the war ended.

Marion met her future husband Paul, an Army veteran of D-Day and the Battle of the Bulge, during the Allied occupation after the war. Married in Coburg, she was the second war bride from Germany. They were together for 62 years.

She emigrated to the United States where she became a proud American citizen. Together, she and Paul brought her mother to the United States from Germany in 1958 and cared for her until her death in 1986.

Marion was a 63-year survivor of cervical cancer, having been treated in 1955 and a recent survivor of two unrelated intestinal cancers.

In 1968, Marion and Paul founded Standish Denture Clinic, the predecessor of Standish Denture Centers.

She was proud to see the practice she created celebrate its 50th Anniversary.

A talented seamstress, she made most of her own clothes. She loved to garden and shop at her favorite boutique. A cat lover, she adored her little Honey.

Marion loved her home in St. Kitts and all her friends there. It reminded her of her childhood in Brazil and she truly felt accepted, loved and comfortable there.

Marion was predeceased by her husband, her parents and her sisters Christa and Herma.

She is survived by her son, Paul M Levasseur of Standish and St Kitts, her chosen sons Rudolph Mc Master of Bassetere, St Kitts and Terry Alexander of Andover, Maine, her best friend of 70 years, Priscilla Dempsey and her beloved granddaughter Ophelia Gardner of St. Peter’s, St. Kitts.
