Laconia-Rachel Marie Martel, 86, formerly of 46 High Street died Sunday afternoon, December 11, 2005 at St. Francis Health Care Center in Laconia.
Rachel was the daughter of the late Alfred and Rose (Fecteau) Guyer. She was born in Laconia on December 20, 1918 and had been a life long resident.
Rachel was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Laconia, and a member of the Ladies of Sacred Heart. She was also a member of l’association Canado Americaine.
Prior to her retirement Rachel worked as a looper at the former Cormier Hosiery in Laconia. She also worked in the cafeteria for many years at the Sacred Heart School. From 1962-1971 she was a Brownie Leader with the Sacred Heart Church Girl Scouts Troop 689, from 1972-1980 she was an assistant leader, and from 1981-1992 she was a Committee Woman. She was also active with the Laconia Girl Scouts-Swift Water Council, and a member of the Laconia Girls Corporation-Camp Winsheblo for 20 years. Rachel was also a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts Pack 62 of Sacred Heart Church. Rachel loved music and entertaining others. She and her sisters were often heard singing on live radio at WLNH.
Rachel was predeceased by her husband Aime F. Martel in 2001, and by a grandson, Jeffrey Martel in 1990.
Rachel is survived by five sons, Richard Martel, Kenneth Martel, Roger Martel, and Robert Martel all of Laconia, and Patrick Martel of Winnisquam. One daughter, Luanne Kabachis of Laconia. One brother Harold Guyer of Epsom, NH. Two sisters Anita Styring and Theresa Emery both of Destin, Florida. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Wednesday December 14, 2005 at Sacred Heart Church, 291 Union Avenue Laconia at 10:00 a.m. Rev. Adrien R. Longchamps pastor of the church will celebrated the mass. Burial took place April 12, 2006 in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Garfield Street, Laconia. Visiting hours were Tuesday evening December 13, 2005 from 6-8 pm at the Simoneau-Paquette Memorial, 139 Church Street, Laconia. Family and friends were invited to attend.
