Our beloved Joseph P. Drier Jr. passed away peacefully on October 15, 2018 with his family by his side.
Joe was born on January 17, 1941 in Dallas, Texas. He grew up on his grandfather’s ranch in Escondido, California, then in 1958 enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. During his time in the Marine Corps, Joe served as a pathfinder in the Vietnam War. After leaving the Marine Corps, Joe remained in California and in spring 1968 met the woman that he described as “the most beautiful woman he had ever seen”. Three weeks later, on May 3, 1968, they were married in Waltham, Massachusetts. Joe and Patty recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
Joe was a devoted father, grandfather, and great grandfather. His favorite moments were spent supporting his grandchildren, whether they were on the field, on the stage, or on the court. He was an avid fan of the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame football. Joe has owned his own business for fifty years and devoted his time to his customers all around the world. Together, Joe and Patty traveled the globe, with Maui being their favorite vacation destination. So much so, that he gifted a Maui vacation to each of his children. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his beloved wife, Joe is survived by his children, Katherine M. Bergstrom and her husband Paul of Blackstone, Linda K. Lomax of Anchorage, Alaska, Steven R. Drier and his wife Laura of Houston, Texas, Joseph P. Drier, III and his wife Kathleen of Whitman, and Danielle E. Sabourin and her husband Mark of Millville, a sister, Kathleen Gentile of Indiana. Also surviving are his cherished grandchildren, Shelly Lomax, Michael & Adam Bergstrom, Steven Drier, II, Kelsey Aggen, Megan Drier, Joseph P. Drier IV Makenzie Sabourin and Keiley Sabourin, 6 great grandchildren and his niece and two nephews.
