WORCESTER - Mary A. (Palumbo) Grimaldi, 101, of Worcester, passed away on October 13, 2018 peacefully surrounded by her family.
Mary was born in Worcester on September 9, 1917 a daughter of late John and Antoinette (Izzo) Palumbo. She was the loving wife of the late Joseph A. Grimaldi.
She was a lifelong member of St. Ann-Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish where she was a member of the Women’s Guild, Choir, Altar Care, Golden Years as well as the Sacred Heart Society and Court Bishop O’Leary Catholic Daughters of America. She was a member of the Mt. Carmel Preservation Society.
Mary enjoyed making aprons, afghans, hats, lap robes “for the elderly,” watching EWTN and the Waltons, making anisette and waffle cookies, homemade macaroni, Baccala on Christmas Eve, and Baked Rice for Easter. She was the best Ma, Nana, and Aunty Mary we could have asked for.
She leaves behind her daughter Susanne and husband James C. Abysalh Jr., granddaughter Sarah and her husband Brian Goyette, grandson Andrew and his wife Athena, a sister Edith Lucente, a brother, Robert and his wife Margaret, brother in law William Grimaldo and his wife Rita, and sister in law Lena Grimaldo and many loving nieces and nephews.
Mary was predeceased by her son Francis J. Grimaldi, sisters, Grace Palumbo, Rose Bello and Anna Dattis, brothers, Joseph, Jack and Enrico Palumbo and many other dear members of the Palumbo and Grimaldi/o families.
The family would like to thank Christopher House for their wonderful care the last few months, and the incredible staff from Jewish Health Care and Hospice, especially Maggie McNeil and Rev. John Sugden, for their dedication, care, and compassion.
Her funeral will take place on Wednesday October 17th at FAZIO FUNERAL HOME, 9 Branch St Worcester at 9:30am. A prayer service will begin at 10:30am in the Funeral Home.
