William “Rodger” Giles entered into rest on October 12, 2018. Rodger’s childhood was spent in the Columbia, South Carolina area and he was a graduate of Irmo High School. As a young man, Rodger moved to Augusta and excelled as a businessman. He got his start in the restaurant business and owned several restaurants. Later, Rodger shifted his interests to commercial real estate development. Rodger developed shopping centers, big box stores, and apartment complexes throughout the Southeastern US. Rodger also believed in service to the community and served on the Augusta Aviation Commission and as a Director of the Harbourtown Yacht Club Boat Slip Owners Association. Rodger had a great love of the waters near Hilton Head, a hearty laugh, loved a good joke, and had many dear friends who enriched his 73 years on earth.
Rodger was very grateful for the dedicated love and support of his long-time assistant, Stephanie Quebedeaux and his beloved Tammy Berry whose unflagging love and devotion brought joy during his difficult illness. He was also very thankful to all the wonderful, caring, and professional doctors, nurses, and aids who took such good care of him, particularly Mae Tate, Jessica Spencer, and Patrice Hayes.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, October 14, 2018 at Summerville Cemetery, Augusta, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Children’s Hospital of Georgia, 1446 Harper Street, BT 1844, Augusta, GA 30912.
