Obituary


Harold F. MacGilvray, Jr., a lifelong and well known Medford resident passed away peacefully, October 11, 2018, at the Beth Israel Hospital in Boston surrounded by his loving family. Harold was the beloved husband for 57 years of Frances N. (Lunetta) MacGilvray. Born in Malden, Harold was one of ten children of the late Harold F. and Ruth (St. Dennis) MacGilvray.

Raised and educated in Medford, Harold was a 1954 graduate of St. Clement High School. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War until his honorable discharge in 1960. He was appointed to the Medford Police Department in 1964 and faithfully served the people of Medford for three years. He was then appointed to the Metropolitan District Commission Police Department where he continued to serve until his retirement in 1984. Harold was a man of strong Catholic faith and was a lifelong parishioner and very devoted to St. Clement Church and the Parish Community. Harold loved the City of Medford and local politics and never shied away from sharing his views and opinions. He also enjoyed dinning out with family and friends and always looked forward to meeting the guys for coffee every day. However his greatest joy was his family and especially, the apple of his eyes, his grandchildren, whom he was so proud of.

In addition to his beloved wife Frances, Harold is survived by his devoted children; Leah O'Keefe and her husband Chris of Reading, Patrolman Harold F MacGilvray III, MPD and his wife Allison of Medford, Joseph MacGilvray and his husband Altino Medeiros of Wakefield, Patrolman Paul MacGilvray, MPD and his wife Andrea of Wilmington. He was the loving grandfather of Connor, Kelsey and Caitlin O'Keefe, Megan, Marisa, Sean and Molly MacGilvray, Ashley, Ava and Thomas MacGilvray. Brother of John of Chelmsford, Alan of Tyngsboro, Daniel of Woburn, Ruth of Medford, Claire of Arizona, Robert of Medford, Stephen MacGilvray of Maine, and the late Kenneth MacGilvray and June DeRosa . Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral from the Dello Russo Family Funeral Home, 306 Main St., MEDFORD, Wednesday, October 17th, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass celebrated in St. Clement Church, 71 Warner St., Medford, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be held on Tuesday from 3 to 8 p.m. Services will conclude with Military Honors and burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
