Obituary


TILTON, NH – Raymond Lozeau, 95, passed away on Sunday, October 7, 2018, at the Franklin Hospital Medical Center in Franklin, NH, after a short illness.

He was born on December 16, 1922, in Hanover, NH, the son of Ernest and Antoinette (LaPorte) Lozeau. He attended schools in the Lebanon, NH.

Raymond served in the 172 Infantry 43rd Division of the US Army during World War II, from December 23, 1940 to November 10, 1943, receiving the Purple Heart for wounds received in the South Pacific. He participated in the Battles of Munda, New Georgia Island, and Rendova Island, also Occupation of Russell Island. He was wounded in action at Rendova, New Georgia Island, on July 2, 1943. He was entitled to the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Campaign Medal, American Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and was awarded the Order of Purple Heart Award at Fletcher General Hospital, Cambridge, Ohio, on November 2, 1943. He received an Honorable Medical Discharge on November 10, 1943 at Fletcher General Hospital in Cambridge, Ohio.

He is survived by his three children: Louis Lozeau, Paul Lozeau, and Priscilla Ouellette; grandchildren and great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He is also survived by three sisters – Cecile Hoza of Venice, Florida, Sister Jeanette Lozeau of Canada, and Theresa Nadeau of Canada, and two brothers – Gerard Lozeau of Enfield, NH and Lionel Lozeau of Sharon, VT. He was predeceased by wives Geraldine Lozeau, Genevieve Lozeau, and Antoinette Lozeau, and son Norman Lozeau (who made the ultimate sacrifice in the Vietnam War).

Committal Services will be held at the Mount Calvary Cemetery and Mausoleum, 474 Goffstown Road, Manchester, NH 03102 on Wednesday, October 24, 2018, at noon. It will be followed by Military Honors. There will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the NH SPCA, 104 Portsmouth Avenue, Stratham, NH, 03885.

Raymond’s family would like to give thanks to the New Hampshire Veterans Home in Tilton, NH and the Franklin Hospital in Franklin, NH for providing gentle and compassionate care. We would like to give a special thanks to Jeannie Keith, his caretaker for many years, for all that she did for Raymond.
