Retired Boston Firefighter John E. "Red" Noonan, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He was 80 years of age.
Red was born in Boston on June 5, 1938, a son of the late Daniel J. "Jerry" Noonan and Ann "Bunty" (Burns) Noonan. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated in the Boston Public School system and graduated from Charlestown High School in 1956. Red enlisted into the United States Army on September 26, 1961 and served his country with honor and courage during the Vietnam Conflict. He was honorably discharged on August 31, 1967 with the rank of Private First Class. Red joined the Boston Fire Department in 1971 and served his entire career as a Firefighter on Ladder # 9 in Charlestown and retired in 2000 following 29 years of dedicated service to the City of Boston. He was a member of Boston Firefighters Union Local # 718 and The Halligan Club in Charlestown. He enjoyed playing basketball in his younger years and was an avid Boston sports fan.
Red is the beloved husband of 42 years to Jeanette M. (Cerolia) Noonan. He is the devoted father of Daniel Noonan and the late Sean Noonan. He is the beloved brother of the late James Noonan, Maryanne Ryan, Sheila Noonan and Daniel Noonan. He is the beloved brother-in-law of Linda Donovan. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Red's Funeral on Friday, October 12, 2018 at 8 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 9 A.M. His burial is private. His visiting hours will be on Thursday, October 11, 2018 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
