Hazel G. Marvelle, 91

Dateline: Mansfield, MA


Hazel G. Marvelle died peacefully at home on Sunday, October 7, 2018. Born in Newfield, Maine, to the late George and Mabel (Osborn) Brown in 1926, she was raised in Foxboro and then lived in Mansfield for the rest of her life. She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, John Marvelle in 2014. Hazel worked at the First National grocery store before starting her family and then later worked as a teacher’s aide in the Mansfield School Department for many years.


She is survived by her devoted children, John D. Marvelle and his wife, Elise, of Norton; Kevin J. Marvelle and his wife Naomi of Chevy Chase, Maryland; Diane M. Vincent and her husband Walter of San Antonio, Texas; Jeffrey A. Marvelle and his wife Kathy of Merrimack, New Hampshire; Pamela J. Medeiros and her husband Victor of Foxboro; and Lisa M. Flynn and her husband Brian of Attleboro, twelve grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was also the grandmother of the late Jason Marvelle and was a special “Grammie” to her exchange student, Joy Liu from Beijing.


Hazel was the sister of the late Mabel Comeau, Vincent Brown, Edna Crumby, Gordon Brown, Lloyd Brown, Ted Brown, Samuel Brown, Janice Barrows, Konrad Brown, Cynthia Brown and Linda Brown, and she is survived by sisters Alice Elmitt, Marilyn Weir, Thelma Henry, Muriel Bishop, and brother Donald Brown.


Hazel loved her family and especially loved to bake for the family’s weekly Friday Night Dinners. She was a life-long Red Sox, Patriots and Celtics fan and watched every game. She also enjoyed knitting and traveling to visit her family all around the country and the world. She also treasured her “Golden Gals” gatherings with the women in her family for the past 4 decades.
