Edmond R. “Uncle Bing” Geoffroy 101, of Franklin, died peacefully in his sleep, Saturday October 6, 2018 at his home. He was the beloved husband of the late Irene L. (Perreault), who died in 2017.
Born March 6, 1917 in Chicopee, MA a son of the late Hercule and Lucia (Babineau) Geoffroy, he was a longtime resident of Chicopee Falls, before moving to Franklin in 2007.
He was educated in the Catholic and public schools of Chicopee and with the University Extension courses. Edmond worked for the Department of Defense as a Quality Assurance Engineer Specialist, retiring in 1973.
A proud American, he served in the United States Army during WWII. He attained the rank of Chief Warrant Officer and participated in battles in Rhineland, Central Europe. He was awarded the WWII Victory Medal, the American Service Medal, and the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal and was honorably discharged in May 1946. He was the recipient of the Meritorious Civilian Service Medal for work on the M-16 Rifle System, in 1973.
A devout Catholic, he was active in his parish, the former St. George Parish, Chicopee Falls where he was a member of its choir, a Eucharistic Minister, Lector, Senior Acolyte and was President of the Parent-Teacher Organization for the parish school. Edmond was the Executive Director of the Annual Stewardship Appeal for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Springfield, retiring in 1984.
Edmond loved the game of golf, and was Club Champion & member of the Hall of Fame and Honorary member of the Orchards Golf Club of South Hadley. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and a member of Post #19 Chicopee.
He is survived by a daughter Claire M. Perry and her husband Rodney of Franklin, sisters, Cecile Benard of Chicopee, Rhea Plourde of East Longmeadow, grandchildren, Suzanne Sheehy and her husband Michael of Westford, Christopher Perry and his wife Renee of Millbury, Jennifer Coste of Blackstone, Kimberley Perry of Vermont, 8 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Lena, Lillian, Raymond, Armand, Albert and Leo.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Thursday Oct. 11th at 9AM from the Charles F. Oteri and Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Jude Church, 86 Main St. Norfolk at 10AM.
Interment with military honors will be held Friday at the Massachusetts Veterans Cemetery, Agawam, at 11AM.
