Obituary

Frances Waldrop Barfield, 86, of Tifton passed away Thursday, October 4, 2018, at her residence, surrounded by her family and under the care of Hospice of Tift Area. Her funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, October 6, 2018, in the Memorial Chapel of Tifton’s First Baptist Church with Dr. Wayne Roe officiating. Mrs. Barfield will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday, October 6, 2018, from 1:30 p.m. until the hour of the service at the Memorial Chapel of Tifton’s First Baptist Church.

Trippe Barfield, Pate Kincaid, Brannen Cummings, William Waldrop, Matthew Waldrop and Rick Waldrop will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Gardeners Sunday School Class at Tifton’s First Baptist Church, Doris Johns, Dollie Brown, Frederica Henry, Crystal Coffen, Cherry Cornelius, Ben and Linda Flournoy, Landon Alberson, Dan and Carolyn Branch, Sue Patton, Marolyn Mixon, Arnita Stewart and Myrtice Thomas.

Born July 22, 1932 in Tifton, Mrs. Barfield was the daughter of the late Julius Waldrop and Dolly Morris Waldrop. She married Tommy “Pittman” Barfield, Sr. on July 16, 1950 and they were married for 66 years. He preceded her in death on November 17, 2016. She was also preceded in death by seven brothers and five sisters. She was a member of Tifton’s First Baptist Church.

The pillars of her life were her faith, family, friends, and her yard. She enjoyed hosting her family for holidays and loved to have a guest sitting at her kitchen table for a meal or to chat. She was very involved with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends who became like family.

Frances was a member of the Garden Club for many years and was honored by them with a distinguished award. She enjoyed working outside in her yard alongside her late husband, Pittman, breeding daylilies and hosting anyone who wanted to get a closer look at the landscaping. She would enter flowers she had grown in competitions at the fairgrounds, and made beautiful arrangements from her yard to donate to the hospital.

Mrs. Barfield is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Gary Kincaid of Tifton; her son, Tommy Pittman “Butch” Barfield, Jr. of Baxley; her grandchildren and their spouses, Pate and Rebecca Kincaid of Greenville, South Carolina, Kristyn and Brannen Cummings of Atlanta, Holly Kincaid of Tifton, Tommy Pittman “Trippe” III and Ashley Barfield of Eatonton and Sidni and Jeremy Mikulecky of Lexington, South Carolina; and her seven great-grandchildren.
