WINDHAM, NH - Frances G. (Skinner) Brooks, age 95, died peacefully on Tuesday, October 2, in the loving care of her grandchildren and hospice in her home in Windham Terrace in Windham. She was the beloved wife of William F. Brooks, who died in 1996 and mother of Martha (Brooks) Flood who died in 1996.
She was born in Lowell in 1922, a daughter of the late George and Mary (O’Regan) Skinner and raised in Lowell. She had lived in Tewksbury for forty-one years, where she attended St. William’s Church, and retired to Windham in 2017.
She began her career as a secretary at the U.S. Coast Guard Base in Boston, worked for the Arthur D. Little Company in Cambridge, and retired from Raytheon in West Andover. In her later years, she volunteered at St. John’s Hospital in Lowell. Frances enjoyed travel, reading, and raised scores of cats. Remarkably, she also raised and trained horses for harness racing. Her stables supplied horses at Rockingham Park, Scarborough Downs, and Foxboro Raceway.
She leaves three grandchildren, Andrew Flood and his wife Wendy of Laveen, AZ, Laura (Flood) Ostrowski and her husband Gary of Windham, NH, Vanessa (Flood) MacDonald and her husband David of Methuen, MA; seven great-grandchildren, Julia, Sara, Amanda, Chloe, Henry, Norah, and Abigail; her niece Marilyn Deyermond of Andover, MA; her step-son, Robert Brooks and his wife Barbara (Vinal) and their family of Tewksbury, MA; step daughter-in-law, Pauline Brooks-Barry and her family of Tewksbury, MA; and was predeceased by her son-in-law, Henry Flood; step-son, James Brooks; her sister, Elizabeth Killen; and brother, Robert Skinner.
Visiting hours Sunday, Oct. 7, from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m. in the Tewksbury Funeral Home, corner of 1 Dewey and 975 Main Sts. (Rte. 38) TEWKSBURY CENTER, Ph. (800 in MA or 978) 851 2950. Her funeral will begin Monday, Oct. 8, at 9:00 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass Monday at 10:00 a.m. in St. William’s Church, 1351 Main St. (Rte. 38) Tewksbury. Committal at Tewksbury Cemetery will be held at a later date. Kindly omit flowers.
