Dr. Robert Shearer Gray, 96, of Mystic passed away on Saturday, September 29, 2018 after a brief illness.
He was born in Washington, DC, the youngest son of William and Aileen Gray. He attended high schools in Groton, CT and Washington, DC, and St. Lawrence University and Tufts Dental School. He enlisted in the Army and served as a dentist in Washington DC where he met his wife, Kathleen. He taught briefly at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. They moved to Buffalo, NY to complete his training as an orthodontist. Dr. Gray opened his orthodontic practice in Mystic, CT in 1953. He was a founding member of the Mystic Rotary Club and a past president. He was also the past president of the New London Dental Association.
Dr. Gray was predeceased by his wife, Kathleen. He is survived by his three children, Philip and his wife, Gilda, Patrick and his wife Kathy, and Elaine and her husband Jean-Yves. He is also survived by four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
