Obituary

Alfred F. Candeias, 87, of Westport, passed away on Sunday, September 30, 2018 at home. He was the husband of the late Thelma P. (Collins) Candeias.

Mr. Candeias was born in Fall River, son of the late Manuel J. and Mary (Lewis) Candeias and had been a lifelong resident of Westport. He served his country in the U.S. Navy. He was a 1949 graduate of Westport High School and later graduated from the Navy Instructor School of Boston. Prior to his retirement in 1986, he was Sergeant for the Westport Police Department, serving for 26 years. Following retirement, he worked for N.A.C. Security. Mr. Candeias was a member of the Massachusetts Police Association and the Retired State County & Municipal Employees Association. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #145 and a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church, both of Westport. He loved to spend time with his family.

Survivors include his son: Kevin F. Candeias and his wife Bonnie of Lakeville; his daughter: Karen L. Farias of Westport; 5 grandchildren: Michael, Kristen, Cherilyn, Rachael and Dean; 7 great grandchildren; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was the father of the late Kenneth M. Candeias and father-in-law of the late Paul Farias.

Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Saturday, October 6, 2018 from the Potter Funeral Home at 9:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Baptist Church, Westport at 10:00 A.M.

Calling hours will be Friday from 4-8 P.M.

Interment will be in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Legion Post #145, 489 Sanford Rd., Westport, MA 02790 or to the Westport Police Department, P.O. Box 3051, Westport, MA 02790.
