Obituary

Lucien J. Desmarais, 94, of Woonsocket passed away at the Friendly Home on Friday September 28th, 2018. He was the loving husband of the late Angela (Petit) Desmarais. They were married on June 24, 1944 and shared over 66 years together until her passing in 2010.
Born in Woonsocket he was a son of the late Pierre and Robertine (Houle) Desmarais. Lucien was raised in St. Hyachinte P.Q. Canada for most of his childhood and returned to the United States at the age of 18.
During WWII Mr. Desmarais served with the Canadian and later the Rhode Island National Guard. Due to a physical condition he was assigned to stateside service.
Mr. Desmarais was a professional truck driver for St. Germain Transportation Company retiring in 1978. After retirement he worked at the Social Dept. Store, Eastland Bank and later at CVS Pharmacy at Park Square.
Mr. Desmarais was a member of the St. Joseph Veterans Association. He was a life member and past president of the Club Lafayette. He was involved in many activities including organizing the annual bus trip to the Red Sox game. As a couple Lucien and Angela were members of St. Joseph senior citizens club and the Royal Travelers. Lucien was a staunch Red Sox and Boston Bruins fan. Lucien enjoyed playing cribbage and quoits, reading, traveling and trying his luck with occasional trips to local casinos.
Lucien was a friendly and outgoing gentleman. Most of all he loved spending time with his family. He will be remembered for his upbeat outlook on life evidenced by his ever present smile and laughter. Lucien truly lived life to the fullest.
Lucien is survived by his family who will greatly miss him. His son Raymond Desmarais and his wife Diane of Apple Valley, CA, three daughters Lucille Girard and her husband Leo of Lincoln, Pauline Fortier and her husband Ronald of Smithfield and Denise Remillard of Cumberland. He was the brother of the late Solange Croteau and Yvette Desmarias. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren who were his greatest joys.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday at 10:00 am in Holy Trinity Parish (Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church) 1409 Park Ave. Woonsocket. Burial will follow in St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery, Bellingham. Visiting hours are Wednesday morning from 8:00-9:30 am, prior to Mass, in the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave. Woonsocket.
