Mitchell Odell Williams, 70, of Tifton passed away Saturday, September 29, 2018, at Tift Regional Medical Center. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 1, 2018, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with Dr. Danny Ray officiating. Eulogies will be given by Chief Buddy Dowdy and Raymond Drennon. Mr. Williams will be laid to rest at Lawrence Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday, September 30, 2018, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Steve Hyman, Buddy Dowdy, Terry Ziegler, Garfield Rhaney, Raymond Drennon and Rick Sanders will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Tifton Police Department and members of the Tifton Public Defenders Office.
Born April 10, 1948 in Dothan, Alabama, Mr. Williams was the son of the late Odell Williams and Marion Paulk Williams. He was a retired Lieutenant with the Tifton Police Department, where he served 28 years. He had also served with the State Public Defenders Office for the past 12 years and he was co-owner of The Locker Room/Crazy Loon Saloon. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and served in Vietnam.
Mr. Williams enjoyed all athletics and was an avid local sports fan. He served on the Board of Directors of the Tift County Recreation Department for more than a decade. Even after he retired, he was always involved in local events. He was known by all and loved by many.
Mr. Williams was a family man and he loved spending time with his two grandsons, who his world revolved around.
Mr. Williams is survived by his wife of 49 years, Patricia Graham Williams of Tifton; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Lance and Amanda Williams and Brett Williams, all of Tifton; two sisters, Connie Wicker of Tifton and Delores Godwin of Enigma; and his two very special grandsons, Hayes Williams and Tye Williams.
