Abington- Harold “Hal” Leo Norton, 77, resident of Abington, MA, died September 27, 2018. He was the beloved husband of Sue (Willamson) Norton for 49 years.
He is survived by his daughters Valerie (Norton) Cahill and husband Chris, Judith (Norton) Wells and husband Gordon, and his son Timothy Norton and wife Tanya. He is predeceased by his daughter Michelle (Norton) Reale survived by her husband David. He has eight grandchildren. He is lovingly remembered by Matt and Chris as “Doc”.
Born in Oswego, NY, he was the son of late Frank Norton and Florence (Larkin) Norton. He is predeceased by his two brothers, Brent and David Norton of Sandwich, MA.
Hal was a US Army Veteran who proudly served in the 82nd Airborne Division from 1959-1961and was stationed in Germany.
He was a graduate of Bourne High School, Class of 1959. Hal was a Massachusetts State Bank Examiner for 32 years who retired in 2001. After retirement, he continued financial auditing and consultations to financial institutions for a number of years.
He was an avid “outdoorsman” who enjoyed hunting and derived much peace and enjoyment from nature.
He attended First Baptist Church in Abington, since 1980. He was a member of the Masonic Puritan Lodge in Whitman since 1974. As an Abington town resident for forty-three years, he was active in civic and town commissions and boards including Abington Conservation Commission, Abington Board of Health and the Strawberry Valley Golf Course Committee.
Family and friends are invited to attend his visiting hours on Tuesday October 2 from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman, and his funeral services on Wednesday October 3 at 10:00 AM in the First Baptist Church, 219 Adams Street, Abington. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Cemetery, Abington.
