Obituary

Peter P. Tkachuk, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at his home in Charlestown. He was 94 years of age.

Peter was born in Boston on February 1, 1924, a son of the late John Tkachuk and Helen (Sokoloska) Tkachuk. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated in the Boston Public School system and graduated from Commerce High School in Boston. Peter enlisted into the United States Army on March 11, 1943 and served his country with honor and courage during World War II. He was honorably discharged on November 7, 1945 with the rank of Private First Class. Peter worked for many years as a Timekeeper at the Charlestown Naval Shipyard until it's closing in 1976 and also worked in his spare time then became a full time employyee for over 53 years as a Clerk at Suffolk Downs Race Track. Peter was an elite handball player and could be seen playing handball in the courts at the neck for many years. He enjoyed woodworking and finishing furniture, traveling to Saratoga and was an avid Boston sports fan. He was a member of The Old Charlestown Schoolboys Association and V.F.W. Logan Post in Somerville.

Peter is the beloved husband of the late Adeline V. "Addie" (Crawford) Tkachuk. He is the devoted father of retired Boston Fire Department Captain John Tkachuk and his wife Geraldine of Medford, Helen Lawler and her husband Joseph (retired Fire Alarm, Boston Fire Department) of Charlestown, Patricia Feeney and her companion Bob Tammaro of Medford, Diane Tkachuk of Charlestown and Robert Tkachuk of Riverside, Rhode Island. He is the loving Grampa to Tracey, Kevin, Keith, Shannon, Mary, Joseph, Beth, Danny, Michael and his great-grandchildren Niall, Madeline, Matthew, Brady, Taryn, Noah, Juliana, Jack and Skylar. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Peter's Funeral on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at 8:30 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown, followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 9:30 A.M. His burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford. His visiting hours will be on Monday, October 1, 2018 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
