Daniel Ethan Newman, age 15, son of Duane and Lorie Newman, now walks in the presence of Jesus. He entered Heaven on September 22, 2018 at Memorial Hospital in Savannah, Georgia.
Born in Monrovia, Liberia, Daniel spent the first 2.5 years of his life abandoned in an orphanage. Impoverished. Fatherless. Destitute. Unwanted. Alone. Those words defined his reality.
But on November 1, 2005, he was chosen and redeemed. He was placed in the embrace of a loving Christian family- a mother and father, a house full of siblings, a new name, and a love that he’d never known before. And although he’d never known that kind of love, he learned to love well. He knew and accepted Christ as his Savior at the young age of six. He was an encourager to all who knew him, always making sure his friends knew how valued and important they were, especially on the ball field where he was a gifted athlete. Sports became his passion as he grew into a young man and he was at his best when his gift of athleticism and his gift of encouragement collided. He loved to run and play hard and push his body to the limit for a win on the field. He was named MVP at countless ballgames, was given awards in multiple sports, and was invited to play on elite travel teams. But even more than his love of winning a game, his greatest accomplishment was that he loved people. He simply loved people well. Especially those who were hurting, downcast, and left out. His legacy of loving others with contagious charisma will live on in the lives he touched.
