Francesca Gaudino passed away surrounded by her loving family at the Sawtelle Hospice House of Reading. She was 94. Born and raised in Augusta, Sicily, she was the daughter of the late Salvatore and Domenica (Bonaccorso) Poli.
In 1960 Francesca and her husband Giovanni brought their young family to the United States on the ship Christopher Columbus, from Naples to Boston and lived in East Boston before settling in Medford in 1969. Upon arrival in the states they encountered some hardship but through strength, faith, commitment and love continued on to raise and support a loving and happy family. Francesca was a naturally talented seamstress who learned her art in Italy as a young lady. She designed clothing and made patterns. She worked in the garment industry once she settled here, but soon developed her own clientele whom she served from her home. And for her, sewing was a labor of love. While she and Giovanni worked hard in their professions to provide a wonderful home for their family, Francesca’s life was committed to caring for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and surrounding them with her love at home.
The beloved wife of the late Giovanni Gaudino, who passed away in 1998, she was a devoted mother to Domenica Guarino and her husband Anthony of Florida, Anna Assini and her husband Renato of Reading, the late Carmela Sciarratta and Nicola Gaudino. She was a loving grandmother to Eduardo, John, Jennifer, Giacomo, John and Nicolas and a loving great-grandmother of Antonio, Michael, Allison, Caroline, Michela, Anna and Stephen. Francesca is predeceased by her siblings who remained in Sicily: Rosetta, Giuseppe, Lidia and Sebastiano. She is additionally survived by many nieces and nephews.
