LAGORIO, Alida (Birkmaier), of Somerset Avenue, Winthrop passed away on September 22, 2018 at her home at age 93. The beloved daughter of the late Arthur W. Birkmaier and A. Madeline (Wilson) Birkmaier. Devoted wife of the late Andrew C. Lagorio, she was the beloved mother of Andrea L. (Lagorio) Leary and her husband John J. of Marblehead. Adored grandmother of Ryan A. Leary and his wife Shannon of Winthrop and Kathryn E. Leary of Winthrop.
Alida was born in Winthrop. A life-long resident of the town, she graduated from Winthrop High School and raised her family in the town she loved. An avid traveler, she and her husband Andy spent many years traveling the country to various locations for reunions with the crew of the U.S.S. Bennion (DD 662). When not traveling, Alida could often be found in her garden at home in Winthrop or at her lake house in Mendon, MA. She loved to bake cookies with her grandchildren and walk as often as possible to a variety of locations throughout the town. Alida was also a member of the St John’s Episcopal Alter Guild and the Cottage Park Yacht Club Wednesday Ladies Bowling League.
Arrangements were provided by the Maurice W. Kirby Funeral Home 210 Winthrop St. Winthrop, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Winthrop and internment at Winthrop Cemetery on September 26, 2018.
