HALIFAX - Carole Louise Whitman (Landry) (Holmes), 78, of Halifax, MA, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 21, surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of the late Harold Whitman.
Carole was born in Brockton MA, daughter of the late Arthur W. Landry and the late George and Louise Taylor. She grew up as a child in Brockton and went to school in Whitman. As an adult, Carole resided in Pembroke, Bridgewater, and Halifax. She worked for a number of years at Carroll Cut Rate in Whitman MA, and most recently Roche Brothers as a cashier, which she enjoyed very much.
Carole mostly enjoyed spending time with the love of her life, her husband of twenty six years,the late Harold R. Whitman Jr., her seven children, twenty-three grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. She especially enjoyed collecting salt and pepper shakers from all over the country, painting ceramics with her sisters, was a professional cake decorator, and very much enjoyed playing bingo with her friends from the Halifax Mobile Estates.
Carole was a friend of Bill W. for 46 years. Her children fondly remember their wonderful camping trips and outings together as a family, enjoying nights at the fire toasting marshmallows and making smore's. One of her favorite joys was celebrating Christmas with all of her family and transforming her home into a winter wonderland. The mound of gifts that she so lovingly put beneath the tree for her family as well as a private stash of gifts for the unexpected guest so that everyone had something to open.
Carole is survived by her Aunt Shirley Day of Cornish, ME, sister Lynn O'Brien and her husband Peter of Bridgewater MA, brother Scott Taylor of Brockton MA, and sister Marlene Taylor Bautista of CA. She is also surived by her children, Henry L Holmes and Tracy Tufts of Scituate MA, Randi Holmes and Lynne DePaolo of Halifax MA, Grace Jones of RI, Angel Clarke and her husband Christopher Clarke of FL, Cindy Dion of Halifax MA, Dawn Barnes and her husband Jimmy Barnes of Hanson MA, Shawn Whitman and Jennifer Leonard of Pembroke MA, and her daughter in law Maureen Whitman of Pembroke MA.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her visitation on Wednesday September 26th from 5:00-8:00PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth St. (Rte 58 at the rotary circle) Whitman. There will be a gathering at the Chapel on Thursday September 27th at 10:30AM,followed by a committal service at 12:30PM in the MA National Cemetery, Bourne, MA.
