Michael F. Gillen, Jr., age 71 of Middleboro, died unexpectedly, September 18, 2018 at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Mike was the loving husband for 49 years of Mary R. (McGlone) Gillen. He was born and raised in Brockton a son of the late Michael and Anita M. (Tardie) Gillen and had lived in Middleboro since 1975.
A graduate of Brockton High School, Michael also earned his degree from Boston State College. During the Vietnam War he served in the US Navy.
Michael had been a project manager at Saddlebrook Co., SMCC and EKM Associates in Middleboro. In his free time he had coached little league baseball, midget football and CYO basketball. He loved attending both educational and sporting events. Michael had been a member of the Middleboro School Committee and had served as chairman. He had been a member of the Mitchell Memorial Club and the DAV. He was also an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan.
Michael will be remembered as a funny and charismatic man who enjoyed being around people. Most importantly, he loved time with his children and grandchildren and attending their sports activities.
In addition to his wife Mary, Michael leaves his three children, Erin Dearing and her husband Michael of Plymouth, Kacey Zych and her husband Mark of Marshfield and Michael Gillen of So. Weymouth and five grandchildren Mikayla, Derek and Dylan Dearing and Anya and Owen Zych. He was the brother of Judith Crowley of E. Bridgewater, Gerald Gillen and his wife Peggy of Lakeville and Colleen Bishop and her husband Jim of Brockton. Michael is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont St (Rte 123) Brockton on Monday 4-8pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home Tuesday at 8:45am for a 10am Mass in Sacred Heart Church, Middleboro. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Kingston.
