Peggy Scott Smith, 81, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, formerly of Augusta, Georgia, died Thursday, September 20, 2018, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, in Albany, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Saturday, September 22, 2018, at Arbor Baptist Church in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Dr. Lloyd Stembridge officiating. The family will receive friends Friday evening, from 6 PM until 8 PM, at Arbor Baptist Church in Fitzgerald. Further services will be held 12 Noon, Sunday, September 23, 2018, at the Columbia Road Chapel of Elliott Sons Funeral Home, in Martinez, Georgia, with her great-grandson, Aubrey Richard Day officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 10 AM, Sunday until the funeral hour. Interment will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, in Grovetown, Georgia.
Mrs. Smith was born November 25, 1936, in Augusta, Georgia, to the late John & Ruby Inglett Scott. She lived in the community for over 30 years moving from Augusta, where she was a weaver and smash hand for Graniteville Cotton Mill and a waitress for Lakeside Diner and Duke’s Café. Mrs. Smith enjoyed playing Facebook games and watching Family Feud. An independent lady, she loved spending time with her family. She was a member of Arbor Baptist Church where she was baptized with her grandson Walker.
She is survived by her children: Mike & Tammy Smith of Jasper, Phyllis Day of Augusta, Gail & Marty Birdsey of Fitzgerald, Pamela Hill of Grovetown, Gary & Cathy Smith of Fitzgerald and Randy Smith of Jasper; 20 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her two Dachshunds: Folley and Sassy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Dale Smith.
