George L. Murphy, age 75, of Woburn for the past twenty years, formerly of Cambridge, passed away December 6th, at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington. He was the beloved husband of Joan (Barbera) Murphy. Born in Somerville he was the son of the late Mary G. (Mullins) and John P. Murphy.
Mr. Murphy was a retired grocery store salesperson. He worked for several large stores for nearly thirty-five years. Following his retirement he worked part time with the Waltham Transportation Company as a driver for children with special needs. Mr. Murphy was a United States Air Force Veteran of the Korean War. He enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and following local sports.
In addition to his beloved wife, Mr. Murphy is survived by his son, Thomas Murphy of Walpole, his daughter, Theresa Tarner of Colorado and ten loving stepchildren. He is also survived by 25 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He is further survived by his sister, Mary Solberg of Winchester and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother, John Murphy Jr.
Funeral from the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Funeral Home 60 Pleasant St. Woburn, Saturday, at 9 AM. Followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Barbara Church, 138 Cambridge Rd. Woburn, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are rspectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Friday 4 thru 7. Interment will be private.
