Eugene A. Cloutier Jr. 69 of 57 Tara Ln. Woonsocket, died Sunday in Roger Williams Hospital, Providence. He was the husband of Lorraine A. (Pelletier) Cloutier. Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of Lucia (Lussier) Cloutier of Manville, and the late Eugene A. Cloutier Sr., and was a proud Woonsocket resident all of his life. Mr. Cloutier was a lighting engineer for General Electric for 30 years before retiring in 2003. After retiring he became the Director of Development for the Arc of Northern RI in Woonsocket. Mr. Cloutier was just entering his second term as a Woonsocket city councilman.
Very active in his community, Mr. Cloutier was a member of the Woonsocket Lions, Jaycees, IWC, Woonsocket Lodge of Elks, and was active for many years in the annual Milk Fund Appeal. He served for many years as the Autumnfest Steering Committee Chairman and was awarded a key to the city, (his second) by the mayor of Woonsocket in 2004. He was also selected as Autumnfest’s Grand Marshall in that year.
In 1995 Mr. Cloutier was the recipient of the Kiwanis “Citizen of the Year”, in 1996 he was given his first key to the city by Mayor Menard, and in 1997 was awarded Rotary International’s “Paul Harris Fellowship” by the Woonsocket Rotary Club as recognition for his outstanding service to the city of Woonsocket.
Mr. Cloutier is survived by two sons, David A. Cloutier of Cranston, Dr. James J. Cloutier of North Smithfield, and one daughter, Donna J. Cloutier of Woonsocket, and five grandchildren. .
His funeral will be held Saturday at 9:00 from the Fournier & Fournier Funeral Home, 463 So. Main St., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 in Our Lady Queen of Martyr's Church, Park Ave. Woonsocket. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery in Cumberland. Visiting Hours will be Friday 4-8 PM.
