Fall River – John J. Powers, Jr., 86, of Fall River died Friday, December 2, 2005 at Catholic Memorial Home. He was the husband of Florence (Kosior) Powers.
He was born in Fall River, son of the late John J. Powers, Sr. the late Anne L. (McCarthy) Powers, and had resided in Fall River for most of his life. Mr. Powers served his country in the United States Army as a veteran in WWII. Prior to his retirement in February of 1984, he was a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service working out of the Fall River branch. He was a Communicant of St. Joseph’s Church, Fall River and was a Communicant of the former St. Williams Church, Fall River. He was a member of the Fall River Grange #492, Fall River Lodge of Elks #118, Italian Progressive Club of Fall River and the Highland Square Dancing Club of Westport.
Including his wife, he is survived by a son: John J. Powers, Jr. and his wife Deborah of Raleigh, NC; 3 daughters: Rose Arruda of Swansea, Jo-Ann L. Polak and her husband Robert of Fall River and Jean C. Harrington and her husband James of Bethel Park, PA; a sister: Barbara J. McMurray of Fall River; 8 grandchildren: George Arruda, William Arruda, Paula Arruda, Robert Polak, Jr., Jennifer Galego, Jill Harrington, Katie Powers and John Powers; 5 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Dorothy Burrows.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Tuesday, December 6, 2005 from the Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Rd., Westport at 8:30 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph’s Church, Fall River at 10:00 A.M.
Calling hours Monday 4 – 7 P.M.
Interment will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River.
