Obituary

TEWKSBURY—Paul M. McDonagh, 71 years old, a longtime resident of Tewksbury, died Thursday afternoon, at Lowell General Hospital. He was the husband of Eileen (Phinney) McDonagh, who survives him.

He was born in Lowell, on July 29, 1930, a son of the late Murtagh and Irene (Rourke) McDonagh, and was graduated from St. Michael’s Grammar School and Lowell High School. He received his Bachelors Degree and his Masters Degree from Lowell Technological Institute, and was the first person to receive a PhD in Chemistry from Lowell Tech.

Mr. McDonagh served in the United States Army.

He was a Chemistry Teacher for over 40 years and taught at Tufts University, Belknap College, in Center Harbor, NH; Worcester State College, Boston State College and UMASS Boston. He was a communicant of St. Robert Bellarmine Church.

Surviving him besides his wife are a daughter: Kathleen McDonagh, of Austin, TX; a son: Allen McDonagh, of Tewksbury; a sister: Shirley Loiselle, of New Hampshire; also several nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Gerald F. McDonagh, James McDonagh, and Joan M. MacDonald.

Friends may call on Monday, June 24th, from 4 to 8 PM at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 Nesmith Street, (Rte. 38), Lowell. His Funeral Mass to be offered Tuesday morning, June 25th, at 10 AM at ST. ROBERT BELLARMINE CHURCH, Andover. Burial in St. Patrick Cemetery, Lowell.
