Angelo S. DeSimone, Jr., of Haverhill, formerly of Medford and Somerville, passed away on Tuesday, September 18, at Massachusetts General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Raised and educated in Boston's North End, he was the son of the late Angelo and Concetta (Corlito) DeSimone.
Angelo started his career with the MBTA as a bus driver, and as he progressed in his career he was able to fulfill the position as the Chief Inspector of the MBTA. He was a dedicated employee and will be missed greatly.
Angelo loved to travel everywhere, especially by cruise ship, with his loving wife Carol by his side. Yearly, the two of them would vacation in Aruba. An avid gambler, Angelo and Carol would frequently visit Las Vegas and if he wasn't at dinner or a show, you would find him at the craps table. Family vacations to Disney were a must. Angelo's favorite Disney character was Goofy, and like Goofy, he was always cracking jokes to keep you smiling.
In the summer, Angelo loved spending time at Lake Winnipesaukee, with his family. You could find him swimming, tubing, riding around in his boat or even getting lost on a jet ski. Angelo was a patriotic person to the core; the nation's Bald Eagle had a special place in his heart.
When Angelo was not traveling, or spending time on the lake, he spent every Wednesday religiously at Brother's restaurant in Wakefield for the past seventeen years, with at least thirty to forty other close buddies. Angelo loved everyone and was loved by everyone; he will be deeply missed.
Angelo was the beloved husband of Carol (Cyr) DeSimone, and the devoted father of Marie McPherson of Haverhill, Paul DeSimone of Pelham, NH, Suzanne Poirier and her husband Billy of Newburyport, and Terri Given and her husband Jeff of Haverhill. He was the loving grandfather of Jessica and her fiancé Chris, Ryan, Nicole, Samantha and her partner Jared, Dylan and his partner Piage, Julianna and her fiancé Corey, Sarah, Stephanie, and Alissa, and the loving great-grandfather of Lillyana and Catalia. Angelo was the dear brother of Joseph A. DeSimone and his late wife Peggy of Florida and Richard A. DeSimone and his wife Lorraine of Medford. He was the brother-in-law of Corine Thomassen of Townsend and is survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home 306 Main St., Medford on Saturday September 22nd at 10 AM followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High St., Medford, at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. Visiting hours Friday, September 21, from 4 through 8PM.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent in Angelo’s name to Joslin Diabetes Center, Inc., 1 Joslin Place, Boston, MA 02215.
