DeMelo, Mario Moura, 74, of Tewksbury passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, September 18th surrounded by his loving family. Mario was born in a small village, Póvoa do Paço, in Portugal on September 24, 1943, the son of the late Mario Pereira DeMelo and the late Rosa Rodrigues Moura DeMelo from Póvoa do Paço Portugal.
Mario grew up in Póvoa do Paço, Portugal where he attended vocational school and studied electrical engineering. He spent many years in the Portuguese Military before relocating to Newark , New Jersey and ultimately residing in his Tewksbury homestead.
In the early part of his life, Mario worked at Majilite out of Dracut, MA as a Mechanical and Electrical Engineer for over 40 years. Mario was a passionate and loyal employee who loved his work family.
Mario was also a big part of the Tewksbury community where he spent over 16 years serving as the Treasurer of the Tewksbury Youth Hockey Association. Mario was quiet but a fiercely loyal friend, hard-working and a provider to his family and community. He loved visiting his family and vacationing in Aviero, Portugal.
He is survived by his wife, Maria da Luz DeMelo of Tewksbury, MA, his daughter Emily R. DeMelo of Somerville, MA, his son, David A. DeMelo and his wife Gina N. DeMelo and granddaughter Roya N. DeMelo of Lakeville, MA., sisters Lourdes M. Silva, Fatima M. Miranda and his brother, Jose M. DeMelo and many nieces and nephews all of Aviero, Portugal.
Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, September 24, 2018 at 10:00 at St. Williams Church in Tewksbury located at 1351 Main Street. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that memorial contributions be made to the Tewksbury Youth Hockey Association, P.O.Box 694, Tewksbury, MA 01876.
